A message from the Foundation Chair Edward Klimowicz

A.B. Paterson College has a wonderful history of providing the highest standard of education to our students within an ethos of good character and community spirit since 1991.

Australians are generous to a fault. Should there be a bushfire, a flood, a drought or some other disaster that befalls our neighbour then we are there to help out - with our time, our sweat, our money. And it doesn’t just end at our borders. Australians are noted internationally as being generous donors wherever people are the victims of war or famine or some kind of natural disaster. In fact, the assistance Australia and Australians gave to the Indonesian victims of the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004 exceeded that of any other country, both on a per capita basis and as an absolute amount. All in all, we can be quietly proud of our willingness to give and to give generously.

However, there is another kind of giving, another kind of generosity where culturally we fall a bit behind. It is called philanthropy and it comes from the desire to promote the welfare of others by giving funds to worthy causes. The generosity in philanthropic giving does not arise so much as a response to an immediate need but stems more from an inner longing to make a difference, to help those less fortunate, to make the world a better place. It looks to the future and those that give know they are leaving a legacy.

A.B. Paterson College has a history of providing the highest standard of education to our students within an ethos of good character and community mindedness. Our Foundation was established to continue to provide this high standard of education and personal development to even more students who may not otherwise have such opportunities and, in so doing, change a child’s life and ultimately give them the capacity to contribute and help make the world a better place.

This can only be achieved through your generosity. I ask you… What is the cost of supporting a child’s education? What is the cost if we do not?
